About
WHO Programme - Establishing Radiation Safety Culture in Asia-Pacific Countries
The World Health Organization (WHO), the International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA) and the International Organization of Medical Physics (IOMP) are conducting a joint project to collect feedback from key stakeholders to develop a framework document providing guidance for the establishment and maintenance of a Radiation Safety Culture (RSC) as part of a safety culture program in health care settings. The 1st regional workshop for Latin American countries was organized in Buenos Aires, Argentina in April 2015 followed by the 2nd regional workshop for European Countries held in Geneva, Switzerland in December, 2015. The 3rd workshop for African countries was organized in Stellenbosch, South Africa in November 2016 and the latest, the 4th regional workshop for Middle East countries was organized in Doha, Qatar in February 2017.
This year we are proud to announce, the "5th WHO Regional Workshop on Radiation Safety Culture in Healthcare (RSCH) for Asia-Pacific countries" that will be held in Malaysia. This workshop is jointly organized by the Ministry of Health of Malaysia (MOH) with WHO, IRPA and IOMP, in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Its objective is to identify priorities for establishing and maintaining a sustainable radiation safety culture by collecting feedback from health care providers in Asia-Pacific countries.
IAEA Programme - Dose Optimization - Analysis and Interpretation of Patient Dose Data
The workshop aims to equip participants with sufficient knowledge and knowhow on patient dose optimization for diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology and nuclear medicine imaging. It also aims to ensure participants gain sufficient knowledge on the purpose, method of setting national dose reference levels and studying the impact of these reference levels on radiation dose of patient. The workshop will consist of lectures, group work, practical exercises and technical visits.
Expected participants are senior medical physicist who is responsible for patient dose data collection and analysis. The selected participant is expected to come to the workshop together with the patient specific radiation dose parameters from their respective centres and to present the current status of DRL survey in their country.
